サンフランシスコ・ベイエリアの歴史年表

これは、カリフォルニア州サンフランシスコ湾岸地域、サンフランシスコ湾に隣接する9つの郡で発生した出来事、そして湾自体の歴史を時系列で示したものです。

• サンアンドレアス断層（写真）は、約3000万年前の中期新生代に形成され始めました。
• 950万年前、モラガ火山群は、現在のティルデン地域公園からモラガにかけてのイーストベイの尾根の下にある溶岩の大部分を生成した。
• 258万年前に始まった第四紀氷河期の間、湾が満ちることになる盆地は、海岸山脈の谷のほとんどに似た、小さな丘が点在する大きな直線状の谷でした。中央渓谷の川は、後にゴールデンゲートとなる峡谷を通って海へと流れ出ていました。氷床が溶けるにつれて、その後4000年の間に海面が91メートル上昇し、谷は太平洋からの水で満たされました。 
• 約64万年から70万年前、現在のカリフォルニアの大部分が氷河期から抜け出しつつあった時期に、中央カリフォルニアを覆っていた内陸の湖と太平洋を結ぶ海峡が形成された。
• カリフォルニアにおける人類の居住の証拠は、少なくとも紀元前17,000年にまで遡る。
• オローネ族（写真）は、6000年前からベイエリア地域に居住しており、1770年当時の人口は1万～2万人と推定されている。
• コースト・ミウォク族は4000年前からソノマとマリン地域に居住しており、1770年には推定人口2000人だった。
• パトウィン族は1500年前からベイエリア北部に居住しており、1770年当時の人口は推定1万2000人だった。
• ベイ・ミウォク族は現在のコントラコスタ郡にあたる地域に居住しており、1770年当時の推定人口は約1,700人であった。

• 1539年、フアン・ロドリゲス・カブリロはカリフォルニア沖の島々に上陸し、それらをファラジョネスと名付けた。ファラジョネスとはスペイン語で崖または尖った小島を意味する。
• 1542 年 11 月 13 日、フアン ロドリゲス カブリロはサンフランシスコ湾の入り口を見逃していたときに、船から半島を発見し、「ピノス岬」と名付けました。

• フランシス・ドレークは1579年に現在のドレークス湾（写真）に上陸し、その土地をニュー・アルビオンとしてイングランド領と宣言した。

• 海岸沿いを航行する帆船は数多くあるが、霧や船が海岸近くを航行することを避けるなどの要因により、ゴールデンゲートやサンフランシスコ湾を発見した船はない^{[ 1 ]。}

• ガスパール・デ・ポルトラが 1769 年にベイエリアに到着

• 1837 年、アントニオ オルテガはサンフランシスコ北、サンフランシスコ ソラノ伝道所の跡地でプルケリア (居酒屋)を経営し始めます。

• ワシントン・アロン・バートレットがイェルバ・ブエナの市長に任命される
• 約240人のモルモン開拓者が到着すると、ヤーバ・ブエナの人口は倍増した。その中にはサミュエル・ブランナンも含まれていた。

• セント・イグナティウス・アカデミーは、イタリア人イエズス会士のアンソニー・マラスキ神父、ジョセフ・ビクシオ神父、マイケル・アッコルティ神父によってサンフランシスコに設立されました（キャンパス内にある現在のセント・イグナティウス教会の写真）。
• 金採掘が利益を生むのは、パートナーシップを組むか従業員として働く中規模から大規模の労働者集団に限られるようになったため、カリフォルニア・ゴールドラッシュは終焉を迎えた。
• カリフォルニア大学はオークランドに設立された。

• サンマテオ郡が法人化される（1878年の地図を参照）。
• ハッチングスのイラストレイテッド・カリフォルニア・マガジンはサンフランシスコで創刊された。
