グレートブリテン及びアイルランド連合王国は1801年に設立されたが、1816年の統合基金法により、グレートブリテン大蔵卿とアイルランド大蔵卿の別々の役職が、1817年1月5日にグレートブリテン及びアイルランド連合王国大蔵卿として一つの役職に統合された。[6]この役職は空席のままとなり、以前の財務長官の職を執行する委員が、財務長官とアイルランド大蔵卿の職を執行する委員として任命された。[4]
