いくつかの国、従属領、自治区、および限定承認された州の、十分に文書化された国旗提案のすべてをまとめたものです。

1967年、小説賞受賞者のFPアレックス・フルーリーは、アンゴラを含むポルトガルの植民地のデザインを手掛け、植民地の小紋章の盾を描いたポルトガルの旗をデザインした。 ^[1]

1996年、汎アフリカ旗、 MPLAおよびUNITAの旗を基にした、赤・緑・黒の三色旗のデザインが提案された。

2003 年には、上下に 2 本の青い縞、中央に大きな赤い縞 1 本、そしてそれらを区切る 2 本の小さな白い縞がある別の旗が提案されました。また、中央にはチトゥンドゥ フル洞窟の岩絵から取られたと思われる太陽のシンボルもありました。

1885年、アルメニアのカトリック司祭で歴史家のゲヴォント・アリシャンは、2つのアルメニア国旗を提案した。その1つは、赤、緑、白の横三色旗で、赤と緑はアルメニアのカトリック暦に由来し、復活祭の最初の日曜日は「赤い日曜日」、2番目の日曜日は「緑の日曜日」と呼ばれ、デザイン上の理由で白が追加されている。その後、彼は別の旗を提案した。それは、虹から取った赤、緑、青の縦三色旗である。^[2]

1918年、アルメニアの画家マルティロス・サリアンは「色は真の奇跡である」としてレインボーフラッグのデザインを提案した。 ^[3]

オーストラリア国民を代表する旗として最初に提案されたのは、ユーレカ旗です。1854 年のユーレカ柵の戦いの際、数人のデモ参加者がこの旗に忠誠を誓い、反抗の象徴として掲げました。

1900 年、連邦制が近づき、旗の必要性が高まったことを察知したメルボルン イブニング ヘラルド紙は、優勝者に 25 オーストラリア ポンドの賞金を出すことを約束するコンテストを開催しました。応募作品には、デザインにユニオン ジャックと南十字星を含めることが義務付けられました。優勝作品には、F. トンプソン氏のデザインが選ばれました。

このコンテストは、同じくメルボルンの雑誌『レビュー・オブ・レビューズ』が1900年10月に新しいコンテストを企画するきっかけとなった。同誌は、参加者に旗のデザインに特定の要素を含めることを義務付けるという決定を無視した。

その後、1901年に新しく結成された連邦政府は、1900年のReview of Reviewsコンテストに提出された提案も含めた公式のコンテストを開催しました。5つの優勝者が選ばれましたが、それぞれのデザインは細部が異なるだけでした。最初のオーストラリア国旗は、この5つの優勝者のデザイン要素を使用して調整されました。

しかし、オーストラリアの国旗論争は、連邦成立後に公式国旗が採択された1990年代初頭まで遡り、長年議論されてきた。オーストラリアが新しい国旗を採用すべきかどうかの議論では、ユニオンジャックの廃止と、オーストラリアの複雑で多文化な歴史の表現が主な論点となっている。この議論は、1982年のデイリー・テレグラフ紙、1992年のアデレード・アドバタイザー紙、 1993年のア・カレント・アフェア紙などによる非公式なデザイン変更コンテストを何度か開催するきっかけとなった。

1973年、バハマの国旗のデザインがガーター勲章授与式に提出された際、紋章院長のアンソニー・ワグナー卿は金色とアクアマリンの縞模様の色を入れ替えることを提案した。しかし、この変更は結局行われず、現在のバハマ国旗が採用された。^[4]

1990年、ミンスク当局はソビエト社会主義共和国の国旗とともに白赤白の国旗の使用を許可した。これにより多くの野党支持者がこのデザインを取り入れたさらなる提案を行った。その中にはパホニアが赤い縞の中に入った旗や、掲揚口に向かって赤い横棒が追加されて北欧十字に似たものもあった。^{[5] [6]}

1991年にソ連からの独立を宣言した直後、ベラルーシSSR第12回評議会の第6回特別会議が、共和国の名前、国旗、紋章を含むいくつかの議題を議論することを目的として開催されました。国旗のデザインは一般から提出され、その多くは赤、緑、青の色を含んでいました。^{[5] [6]}

1993年、採用された白赤白の旗 に関する騒動のため、後の大統領アレクサンドル・ルカシェンコは国旗を変更する国民投票を提案したが、却下された。1995年に大統領に就任したアレクサンドル・ルカシェンコ大統領は、上下に2本の細い緑の縞と中央の赤のフィールドで構成されるバージョンを提案した。この旗は、ソビエト社会主義共和国で使用されていた鎌と槌のないバージョンとともに、それぞれの紋章のデザインを含めて国民投票にかけられた。後者が国民投票で勝利し、ベラルーシの現在の国旗として採用された。

2008年、ベルギーの芸術家リュック・スウィネンは、ベルギーの絡み合った文化と言語を象徴するために、縞模様の間の線をぼかすピクセルをベルギーの国旗に追加するという提案を行った。

2010年、オランダ人デザイナーのテウン・オッカーセは、フラマン人を表す黄色・黒・黄色の背景とワロン人を表す黄色・赤・黄色のデザインを組み合わせ、その交差によって旗の中央を指す4つの「矢印」を形成するという新しいベルギー国旗を提案した。

2011年、ベルギーの漫画家ピエール・クロルは、黄色、赤、青、白の4つの正方形に分かれたベルギーの新しい国旗をデザインした。黄色はフランドル人、赤はワロン人、青はブリュッセル、白はベルギーのドイツ語圏を表している。^[7]

ボリビア大統領選に勝利し、憲法改正が行われた後に、国旗変更の議論が巻き起こった。エボ・モラレスは2006年10月、ボリビア国旗にウィファラを交差させた以下の国旗をジャージに着てサッカーの試合に登場した。結局、国旗の変更は行われなかった。^{[8] [9]}

1992年と1997年に、ボスニア・ヘルツェゴビナの国旗に関するいくつかの提案がなされた。

1992年に提案された旗の一つは、緑・赤・青の横三色旗で、緑はボスニア人、赤はクロアチア人、青はセルビア人を表すというものだった。

当時から別の旗が提案され、それが承認された旗となったが、左側と右側に青い帯が付いていた。

サラエボの防衛者らが提案したもう一つのデザインは、旗の右下に青い三角形を描き、旗の半分に3つのユリ模様を描き、残りの半分に6本の赤と白の縞模様を描き、汎スラヴ色を表現したものである。^[10]

1997年、ボスニアのセルビア人がボスニア人だけを表す旗として受け入れられるものを検討したため、再び旗の変更が行われました。チェコ風の提案があり、青い三角形は正教会のセルビア人、緑のバーはイスラム教徒のボスニア人、赤いバーはカトリックのクロアチア人を表していました。また、明るい青の背景にオリーブの枝、もう1つはボスニア・ヘルツェゴビナの地図を描いた2つの提案もあり、おそらく議論の余地のないデザインを意図していたと思われます。

同様の提案が他に4件あり、いずれもボスニアの地図（青または黄色）を赤・白・青の三色旗（斜めまたは横）の中に、円の中に10個の星、または国連旗から取った2本のオリーブの枝を配したものが含まれていた。^[11]

カルロス・ヴェステンドルプ上級代表 は3つの提案を行った。1つは採用された旗だが国連旗に似た青の色合いのもの、もう1つは国連のような青の背景に黄色と白の5本の縞が旗の両側から伸びて反対側には達しないもの、そして最後の提案は前のものと同じだが12本の縞が旗の中央に三角形を形成するというものであった。^[12]

1888年、ジュリオ・リベイロはブラジル共和国の旗をデザインした。白と黒が交互に並ぶ15本の縞模様で、カントン内に赤い長方形があり、白い円の中に青いブラジルの地図が描かれ、カントンの各隅に4つの黄色い星が描かれていた。この旗は最終的にサンパウロ州の旗となった。^[13]

1890年、アントニオ・ダ・シルバ・ジャルディンは、中央に紋章を配した黒・赤・白の三色旗、ブラジル共和国の国旗もデザインした。^[要出典]

また、1890年に、リオブランコ男爵ホセ・パラーニョスも同様のデザイン、つまり黒・白・赤の斜めの三色旗に帝国の紋章に似た紋章を中央に配したデザインを提案した。

1892年、オリヴェイラ・ヴァラドンは、ブラジルの国旗から青い円、星、標語を削除し、代わりに国章を追加することを提案した。

1908年、ヴァーツラウ・エスコバルは旗に「宗派（実証主義）の標語」を掲げることはできないとして、「ORDEM E PROGRESSO」という標語を削除することを提案した。

1908年、エウリコ・デ・ゴエスは、盾や王冠をなくし、代わりに白い星を配した帝国旗に戻ることを提案した。 ^[14]彼はその後1922年に、白い星や地球儀をなくし、赤い十字と水色の円を拡大して黄色の菱形の中心に配置する同様の旗を提案した。^[要出典]

1915年頃、フェルディナンド国王はブルガリアの新しい国旗を提案した。黒・白・青の横三色旗で、黒は黒海、白はエーゲ海、青はアドリア海を表していた。^[15]

ドイツの植民地に独自の旗と紋章を与えるという提案がいくつかあった。1914年、ヴィルヘルム・ゾルフはカメルーンの旗として、ドイツ帝国の旗に提案された盾、または盾のシンボルを円で囲んだものを提案した。^[16]

1902 年、デイリー エクスプレス紙は、イギリス本土を除く大英帝国全域でユニオン ジャックに代わる一連の旗が提案されていると報じました。その目的は、旗が使用される各地域の人々をよりよく表す旗を提供することでした。説明されているように、旗には聖ジョージ十字と、イングランドを表すカントンの帝国王冠が描かれる予定でした。右上には旗を掲げる地域の紋章、カナダの場合はその国の紋章が描かれます。中央の大きな太陽は「太陽の沈まない帝国」を象徴していました。

1930 年、新聞「ラ・プレス」は数年前にコンテストで選ばれたカナダ国旗を新しい国旗として提案しました。新しい国旗は、白旗、ユニオンジャックのカントン、北斗七星を形成する 7 つの 5 角の青い星、そして国旗の右上 4 分の 1 に 8 角の大きな北極星が描かれていました。

1939年、エフレム・コートは3つの部分からなる旗を提案した。左上に青い三角形があり、その中にはイギリス系カナダ人を表すユニオンジャックが描かれ、右下に赤い三角形があり、その中にはフランス系カナダ人を表すフルール・ド・リスが描かれ、その間の左下から右上にかけて太い白い線があり、その中には緑のカエデの葉が描かれていた。

1946年、現在のカナダのレッド・エンサイン旗の盾を金色のカエデの葉に置き換えることが提案されました。

1947年、アデラール・ゴドブは、左下に白い三角形、右上に赤い三角形を斜めに分け、中央に緑のカエデの葉を配した旗を提案した。

1956年、ジャン＝フランソワ・プリオは、カナダの国旗を赤い背景に緑のカエデの葉を中央に配置することを提案しました。

1962年、ジョン・ガイ・ラバールは、白い背景に緑の北極星のシンボルを描いた旗を提案した。

1964年のカナダ国旗論争では、いくつかの旗が提案された。レスター・B・ピアソン首相が当初好んだ旗は、アラン・ベドーがデザインした旗で、両端に2本の青い横棒があり、中央に1本の茎でつながれた赤い3枚のカエデの葉が描かれており、「ピアソン・ペナント」として知られるようになった。^[17]ベドーが提案した別の旗は、カナダ国旗として承認されたが、左上にイギリス国旗、右上にフランス王室旗が描かれたものだった。 ^[18]

1964年には、イギリス国旗やアメリカ合衆国国旗の要素を取り入れたと思われる、青い背景に白い縁取りの赤い十字、中央に緑のカエデの葉、十字の中に10個の白い星を配したデザイン案も提案された。^[17]

旗の左半分を赤、右半分を白にし、旗全体に10枚のカエデの葉を描くという提案もあった。^[要出典]

1965年にはカナダ先住民協会による提案もあり、国旗の右上に赤い三角形を半分にし、中央に濃い赤色のカエデの葉を配した。^[要出典]

旗に関する議論と現在のカナダ国旗が承認された後、カナダにおけるフランスとのつながりを表す別の提案が浮上した。それは、フランス系カナダ人を表すために中央の白いバーの端に2本の小さな青いバーを追加したカナダ統一旗である。 ^[19]

1976年夏、リビアの指導者ムアンマル・カダフィとの会談後、中央アフリカの指導者ジャン＝ベデル・ボカサはリビアの援助を受けるためにイスラム教に改宗し、イスラムの象徴を取り入れた新しい国旗を採用するプロジェクトが着手された。国旗の左上4分の1を黄色と白で半分水平に分割し、残りの部分を緑色に黄色の星と三日月を描くという提案があった。しかし、この提案はボカサがすぐにローマカトリックに改宗したため長続きしなかった。^[21]

1949年に中華人民共和国の国旗がいくつか提案されましたが、そのほとんどは共産主義の象徴として赤と黄色、そして星を含んでいます。

1952年、オーランド諸島はフィンランド政府から国旗を掲げる権利を与えられ、過去とその当時のいくつかの提案が検討されました。

それらの多くは、この地域のスウェーデン文化と言語にちなんでスウェーデン国旗からインスピレーションを得たもので、その中には青い十字を描いたスウェーデン国旗「スウェーデン」旗案も含まれていた。この旗は、スウェーデン国旗にあまりにも似ているとしてフィンランド大統領に却下された。

Aruba is one of the islands that formed the former territory of the Netherlands Antilles. In 1976, the decision to obtain a distinctive flag was made, so a committee was formed in order to decide in what the design of such as flag would be. From the 693 proposals that were made to the committee, a preliminary selection of 157 was carried out. Some of these designs are depicted below. Some other proposals were made by vexillologists such as Whitney Smith, who proposed two designs.

Eventually, the committee worked on W.J. Fransen's design, and after a few iterations, the current flag of Aruba was born.^[27]

In 2002, James B. Minahan proposed a design in his "Encyclopedia of the Stateless Nations" that he called "the Bermudian National Flag." He states that this proposal aims to provide Bermuda with a national symbol once it attains independence from the United Kingdom.^[31]
