ヤン・グララップ

ヤン・グララップ（1968年生まれ）はデンマークの写真ジャーナリストで、専属カメラマンとしてもフリーランスとしても活動しており、戦争や紛争の写真撮影を専門としている。

グララップは、デンマークのシェラン島北部のヘルシンゲルからほど近いクヴィストゴーで生まれた。13歳の時に初めてカメラを手に入れ、白黒写真の現像を始めた。15歳の時、交通事故の写真を撮って地元の新聞社ヘルシンゲル・ダグブラッドに送ったところ、掲載された。17歳の時、北アイルランド紛争の最中にイースター休暇をベルファストで過ごし、紛争への興味を抱くようになった。^{[ 1 ]}

1989年から1991年までオーフスのデンマークジャーナリズム学校でジャーナリズムと写真を学んだ後、デンマークのタブロイド紙エクストラ・ブラデットで研修生となり、その後フルタイムの写真家となった。^{[ 2 ]}

1991年、グララップは卒業した年にデンマーク報道写真家賞を受賞し、その後も何度かこの賞を受賞することになる。^{[ 3 ]} 1993年にはベルリンに1年間移住し、デンマークの新聞や雑誌のフリーランス写真家として働いた。

グララップは、そのキャリアの中で、湾岸戦争、ルワンダ虐殺、サラエボ包囲、 2000年のイスラエルに対するパレスチナ蜂起など、世界中の多くの戦争や紛争を取材してきた。パレスチナとイスラエルの紛争に関する彼の取材は、2つのシリーズを生み出した。1つは『ラマッラーの少年たち』で、2002年にはピクチャーズ・オブ・ザ・イヤー国際世界理解賞を受賞し、続いて『ヘブロンの少年たち』が制作された。^{[ 2 ]}

彼の著書『シャドウランド』（2006年）は、カシミール、シエラレオネ、チェチェン、ルワンダ、コソボ、スロバキア、ラマッラー、ヘブロン、イラク、イラン、ダルフールで過ごした12年間の彼の作品を紹介しています。Foto8のレビューによれば、それは「非常に個人的で、深く感じられ、完璧に構成されている」とのことです。^{[ 4 ]}彼の2冊目の著書『ダルフール：静かなる虐殺』は2009年に出版されました。

グララップが勤務していたコペンハーゲンの日刊紙ポリティケンの写真編集長ペル・フォルクヴァーは、グララップについて「彼は自分が目にするものに関心を持ち、より長いストーリーを描き、同じ場所に何度も足を運ぶ」と述べている。^{[ 4 ]}

2009年秋にPolitiken紙を退職した後、2010年1月にデンマークの小規模写真会社Das Büroに入社し、国内市場に注力した。アムステルダムにあるNOOR写真エージェンシーとの国際的な仕事も継続しており、同エージェンシーの共同創設者でもある。^{[ 5 ]}

2010年以降の写真には、タイム誌とダグブラデット・インフォメーション誌のために撮影されたハイチ地震の写真が含まれている。^{[ 6 ]} 2011年後半、ガルップはケニアのダダーブ難民キャンプを取材した。^{[ 7 ]}

2023年9月、グララップはウクライナ戦争の取材経験について嘘をついていたことを認めた後、所属新聞社ポリトケンから解雇された。 ^{[ 8 ]その後、デンマークのメディアで報じられた記事は、ウクライナ[ 9 ]}とパレスチナでの彼の仕事の誠実さにさらなる疑念を投げかけた。

その後、2023年9月にラジオ局24syvは、重要な詳細や事実が誇張されていたのはウクライナ旅行だけではないことを明らかにした。ジャーナリストのミレ・エルステッドとニールス・フレデリック・リッカーズ^{[ 10 ]}は、グララップが2019年4月7日（ルワンダ虐殺25周年）にポリティケン紙に寄稿したエッセイ「Turist i mit eget mareridt」（「自分の悪夢の中の観光客」）^{[ 11 ]}が、中心的な詳細について矛盾や矛盾した主張に満ちていることを説得力のある事実とともに明らかにした。さらに、この2人のジャーナリストは、グララップが主張する時期にルワンダにいたかどうか、また、彼が会ったと主張する2人の子供に関する非常に強烈で残酷な詳細が正確に再現されているのか、それとも完全に、あるいは部分的に捏造されているのかについても疑問を投げかけた。

In late September 2023 Grarup's former employer Politiken launched an investigation into his work for the newspaper after numerous news stories with serious allegations. In October 2023 Mayday Press published an 82-page report about Grarup's work in Rwanda during and after the genocide. One of many lies the report documents, is the amount of time Grarup spent in the country. According to himself, he was there for seven weeks, but the compelling evidence puts Grarup in Rwanda during the genocide for only max 36 hours.^[12] On November 10, 2023 Politiken published their findings regarding his work for the paper in the period 2009 to 2023. The report confirms the public allegations.^[13]
