老化防止剤

老化防止剤は、老化および加齢関連疾患の根本原因に作用し、動物の寿命を延ばすことを目的としている。 ^{[ 1 ]}^{[ 2 ]}老化防止剤として考えられるものには、メラトニン^{[ 3 ]} 、カルノシン^{[ 4 ]} 、メトホルミン^{[ 5 ]} 、ラパマイシン^{[ 6 ]} 、ニコチンアミドモノヌクレオチド（NMN）^{[ 7 ]} 、デルタ睡眠誘発ペプチド^{[ 8 ]}、グリシン^{[ 9 ]}、シロシン^[¹⁰^]などがある。

老化抑制剤は、老化のどの特徴に影響を与えるかによって、複数のクラスに分類される可能性がある。^{[ 11 ]}^{[ 12 ]}

老化抑制剤と老化治療薬の区別は、老化研究の進化する分野である。老化抑制剤は、老化の根本原因に対処することで寿命と健康寿命を延ばすために、老化の複数のメカニズムを広く標的とすることを目的としている。一方、老化治療薬は、老化とともに蓄積し、炎症や加齢関連疾患に寄与する機能不全細胞である老化細胞を特異的に標的とする治療法のサブセットである。^{[ 13 ]}
