シュトッケラウの戦いは、ルートヴィヒ・フォン・ヴァルモーデン＝ギンボルン指揮下のオーストリア帝国陸軍第6軍団騎兵隊の一部が、フランス軍のヤコブ・フランソワ・マルラ将軍指揮下のヘッセン近衛騎兵連隊1個と戦った小規模な後衛騎兵の小競り合いである。この戦いはオーストリア軍の勝利に終わった。^[¹^]

コンテクスト

2日前のヴァグラムの戦いでのフランス軍の勝利を受けて、アンドレ・マッセナ元帥率いるドイツ軍第IV軍団は、ヨハン・フォン・クレナウのドイツ帝国陸軍第VI軍団を追撃していた。7月7日のコルノイブルクでの小競り合いで勝利を収めた後、マッセナは敵がボヘミア方面に撤退していることを知り、その方向で追撃を続けた。マッセナ軍団の騎兵隊を率いたのはマルラツ将軍で、ヘッセン近衛騎兵連隊^[¹^]の先頭に立って、合計3個中隊、150名の兵員を率いて進軍した^[²^{] 。}

戦い

7月8日、ウィーンから約43キロ離れたシュトッカーラウにこれらの兵士たちと共に到着したマルラツは、オーストリア第6軍団のオーストリア軽騎兵隊に攻撃された。^[¹^]ヴァグラムの戦いでは、ヴァルモーデンの指揮下には第7リヒテンシュタイン連隊（8個中隊、712名）と第8キーンマイヤー軽騎兵連隊（8個中隊、563名）から約1,365名の騎兵が含まれていたが、^[³^]ヴァルモーデンが実際にシュトッカーラウで交戦した兵士の数は不明である。しかし、一連の短い騎兵戦の後、マルラツの部隊は崩壊し、散り散りになり、連隊はほぼ壊滅したことは確かである。^[¹^]

フランスの軍事史家アラン・ピジャールは、シュトッケラウでの騎兵戦をマルラズ率いるフランス軍にとって「血なまぐさい後退」と評している。^{[ 1 ]}
