As of the 2020 census^[12] there were 1,669 people, 846 households, and 607 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,327.76 inhabitants per square mile (512.65/km²). There were 769 housing units at an average density of 611.77 per square mile (236.21/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.43% White, 0.30% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.42% from other races, and 4.43% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.10% of the population.

There were 846 households, out of which 33.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.77% were married couples living together, 18.68% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.25% were non-families. 22.58% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.93% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.97 and the average family size was 2.54.

The city's age distribution consisted of 27.8% under the age of 18, 12.7% from 18 to 24, 23% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35.5 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.5 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $55,694, and the median income for a family was $67,125. Males had a median income of $47,128 versus $25,521 for females. The per capita income for the city was $24,863. About 11.2% of families and 14.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 24.0% of those under age 18 and 3.9% of those age 65 or over.

There were 769 housing units, of which 8.7% were vacant. The homeowner vacancy rate was 3.3% and the rental vacancy rate was 5.3%.^[13]
