2022 FIFAワールドカップ予選 – CONCACAF第3ラウンド

2022 FIFAワールドカップ予選のCONCACAF第3ラウンド（参加8チームにちなんでオクタゴナルと呼ばれる） ^{[ 1 ]}は、 2021年9月から2022年3月にかけて行われた。^{[ 2 ]}カナダ（ 1986年以来初めて出場）、メキシコ、アメリカ合衆国が2022 FIFAワールドカップへの出場権を獲得し、コスタリカは大陸間プレーオフに進出した。パナマ、ジャマイカ、エルサルバドル、ホンジュラスはこのラウンドで敗退した。

2021年11月16日にエドモントンで行われたカナダ対メキシコの試合は、前日の大雪で気温が-9 ℃（16 °F）に下がったため、メキシコサッカー史上最も寒い試合となった。 ^{[ 3 ] [ 4 ]}この試合は、初回放送日に米国で210万人が視聴し、 2019年のコパ・アメリカ決勝以来、テレムンドで最も視聴されたスポーツイベントとなった。^{[ 5 ]}   

8チーム（ 2020年7月のFIFAランキングに基づき1位から5位にランクインしたCONCACAFチームと、第2ラウンドの勝者3チーム）が、総当たり戦形式でホームアンドアウェー方式で対戦し、各チーム合計14試合を行った。上位3チームが2022年FIFAワールドカップ・カタール大会への出場権を獲得し、4位のチームは大会の残り2枠のうちの1つを獲得するための大陸間プレーオフに進出した。^{[ 6 ] [ 7 ] [ 8 ]}

第3ラウンドは当初2021年6月に開始予定でしたが、COVID-19パンデミックにより延期されました。^{[ 9 ]}第3ラウンドの全スケジュールは2021年6月16日に発表され、^{[ 10 ]} 2021年8月9日に確定しました。^{[ 11 ]}

The top five teams based on the FIFA rankings of July 2020 (shown in parentheses) received a bye to the third round.^[12] For consistency, the three winners of the second round are shown with their FIFA rankings as of July 2020.^[12]

The draw for the third round was held, along with the draw for the first round, on 19 August 2020, 19:00 CEST (UTC+2), at the FIFA headquarters in Zürich, Switzerland.^[13]

Teams were drawn from a single pot, and then were allocated a position (from 1 to 8) to determine the match schedule. The identity of the three second round winners was not known at the time of the draw.^[14]

Note: Bolded teams qualified for the World Cup. Costa Rica advanced to the inter-confederation play-offs.
