オピストンカス属は、 1880年にルートヴィヒ・カール・クリスチャン・コッホによって初めて記載された南太平洋のハエトリグモの属です^。[2]まだ記載されていないオーストラリアの種が数多く存在します。

2019年8月現在、パプアニューギニアとオーストラリア^{[アップデート]}にのみ生息する32種が含まれている。^[1]
