オウム類(/ ˈ s ɪ t ə s aɪ n z /) [1] [2]は、オウム目(Psittaciformes)を構成する402種の鳥類であり、ほとんどの熱帯および亜熱帯地域に生息し、そのうち387種が現存しています。この目は、Psittacoidea(「真の」オウム)、Cacatuoidea(オウム)、Strigopoidea(ニュージーランドのオウム)の3つの上科に細分されます。[3] [4]オウムは一般に熱帯全域に分布しており、南半球の温帯地域にもいくつかの種が生息しています。オウムの最も多様な種は南アメリカとオーストラリアに生息しています。[5]
オウム上科は、頭頂部が動くこと、頸動脈の配置が異なること、胆嚢があること、頭蓋骨が異なることなど、かなり特徴的である。 [6]また、オウム上科では光を散乱させて多くのインコの鮮やかな色彩を生み出すダイク模様の羽毛がない。 [7] ロリキートはかつてはロリ科[8] : 45 とされていたが、現在はオウム科ロリーナエ亜科内の 族 ( Loriini ) とされている。[9] [10] [11]プエルトリコのアマゾン( Amazona vittata )などの一部の種は個体数のボトルネックがあり (この場合は 1975 年に 13 匹に減少)、その結果遺伝的変異性が低く、繁殖成功率も低いため、保護が困難になっている。[12]
