2021–22プレミアシップ・ラグビーは、イングランド国内ラグビーユニオンのトップリーグの35シーズン目であり、ギャラガーがスポンサーを務める4シーズン目であった。^[1]また、1992–93年以来初めて13チームが参加したシーズンでもある。この大会は、9シーズン連続でBTスポーツで放送され、リーグシーズンの4試合が放送され、決勝戦はITVでも無料同時放送された。各週末の試合のハイライトはITVで放映され、BTスポーツではハイライトの延長版が放送された。

今シーズンのチャンピオンは、2021年の決勝でエクセター・チーフスを破り、2度目のタイトルを獲得したハリクインズでした。サラセンズは、2020-21年のRFUチャンピオンシップから最初の試みでチャンピオンとして昇格しました。

2020年に実施されたラグビーワールドカップのカレンダーの変更と、昨シーズンの降格停止を引き起こしたCOVID-19パンデミックにより、今大会には13チームが参加し、追加で4ラウンドが行われる。^[2]シーズンは40週間にわたって開催される予定。

ルールの変更

今シーズンはリーグ降格禁止期間の3年間の2年目となる。^[3]

サラリーキャップ

今シーズンは、2024-25年シーズン前に変更が行われる前の、縮小されたサラリーキャップ規制の下での最初のシーズンです。変更の概要は次のとおりです。

シニアの上限は640万ポンドから500万ポンドに引き下げられます。
地元出身選手のクレジットは最大60万ポンドまで保持される
国際クレジットと EPS クレジットは保持されますが、400,000 ポンドに制限されます。
シーズン中のローン給与上限免除は削除されます。
国際選手のアカデミーの上限は10万ポンドのままだが、最高給与は3万ポンドから5万ポンドに増額される。地元出身のアカデミー選手は10万ポンドの上限には含まれない。
2021～22年まで継続する契約については、新しい上限への移行を管理するために、上限コストは実際の価値の75%で計算されます。
今シーズンも2名の選手がサラリーキャップから除外されている。^[4]

2002-03年のプレミアシップ・ラグビーシーズン以来初めて、前シーズンの全チームが、1年ぶりに2020-21年のRFUチャンピオンシップから昇格したサラセンズと共にリーグ戦に出場し、13チームによるリーグとなる。 ^[5]

Play-offs

As in previous seasons, the top four teams in the Premiership table, following the conclusion of the regular season, contest the play-off semi-finals in a 1st vs 4th and 2nd vs 3rd format, with the higher ranking team having home advantage. The two winners of the semi-finals then meet in the Premiership Final at Twickenham on 18 June 2022.
