歴史
ウッドコートステークス（当初はウッドコットと綴られていた）は、1794年に初めて開催された。エプソムダウンズ競馬場の最後の半マイルで行われた。牡馬は8ストーン、牝馬は7ストーン1ポンドを背負った。[1]
このレースは1800年から1806年までは開催されていませんでしたが、1807年に再開され、エプソム競馬場の最後の6ハロンで行われました。牡馬は8ストーン3ポンド、牝馬は8ストーン0ポンドを背負っていました。 [2]翌年、レースの距離は半マイルに短縮され、馬が背負う重量は2ポンド増加しました。[3] 1812年には重量がさらに1ポンド増加しました。 [4] 1839年、レースは新しい2歳馬コースに移され、距離は6ハロンに増加しました。[5] 1842年、参加費は15ソブに設定されました。重量も変更され、馬が背負う重量は1ポンド減り、ゴーハンベリーの2歳ステークスの優勝者には5ポンドのペナルティが課されました。[6] 1844年、参加費は10ソブに削減されました。[7] 1847年に重量は1842年以前の値に戻され、罰金も撤廃された。[8]
