国家歴史上の重要人物

国家歴史重要人物（国家歴史民）（フランス語：Personnes d'importance historique nationale (personnages historiques nationaux)）は、カナダ政府によって国の歴史上国家的に重要な人物として指定された人物である。^[1]指定は、カナダ国定史跡記念物委員会の推薦に基づいて環境大臣が行う。毎年約70件の候補者が委員会に提出される。人物は死後25年経ってからリスト入りする資格があるが、首相は死後いつでも指定される可能性がある。^[2]パークス・カナダがこのプログラムを管理し、各人物を記念して一般的に建てられる連邦政府の銘板を設置および維持管理しており、通常は各人物に密接に関連した場所に設置される。その目的は一般に、国への貢献を称えることであるが、常にその人物について国民を教育することである。

カナダには、国定史跡と国定歴史イベントの指定に関する関連プログラムがあります。^[3]イベント、サイト、人物はそれぞれ通常、連邦の銘板でマークされますが、標識には対象がどの指定を受けたかは示されません。ウェランド運河はイベントであり、リドー運河はサイトです。ジョン・マクドネル（アバーチャルダー）のケルンと銘板は国定歴史人物に言及しているわけではありませんが、彼の家であるグレンガリー・ハウスが国定歴史地であるため建てられました。^[4]^{[5]同様に、}ジョン・ガイの銘板は人物ではなく、イベント、つまりジョン・ガイの上陸を公式に示しています。^[6]
