シウダ・レアルの戦いは1809年3月27日に行われ、セバスティアーニ将軍率いるフランス軍がコンデ・デ・カルトハル将軍率いるスペイン軍に勝利した。^[¹^]^[²^]

背景

1809年初頭のスペインの戦役は、ウクレスの戦いから始まった。

戦い

フランス第4軍団（ヴァランス将軍率いるポーランド師団が付属）は、グアディアナ川にかかる橋を渡らなければならなかったが、その橋はウルビナ・カルタオハル伯爵率いるスペイン軍団によって守られていた。ヤン・コノプカ大佐率いるヴィスワ軍団のポーランド槍騎兵隊は橋を奇襲して突撃し、フランス軍とポーランド軍の主力部隊が橋を渡る際にスペイン歩兵の側面を回り込んで背後から攻撃し、スペイン軍の前線を攻撃した。

規律を欠いたスペイン兵が散り散りになり、サンタクルス方面へ撤退し始めたとき、戦闘は終結した。第4歩兵連隊の副官長ヨゼフ・ルドニツキは、日記にこの戦闘の様子を記している（原文の綴りをそのまま引用）。

第4軍団のフランス連隊が我々の師団と遭遇するとすぐに、我々はコンスエグラとシウダ・レアルに向かって突進した。その町の前には、好位置に陣取って待ち構えていたスペイン軍団がいた。我々は数で劣っていたが、セバスティアーニ将軍の的確な命令のおかげで、1809年3月27日の約4時間でスペイン軍は敗北し、散り散りになった。彼らは混乱の中、カラトラバ騎士団の本拠地であるアルマグロ、サンタ・クルス・デ・ムデラ、さらにその先のシエラモレナ山脈へと退却していった。^[³^]

結果

スペイン軍は戦死者または負傷者約2000名を出し、さらに多くの兵士が捕虜となった。戦闘後、カルトハル伯爵は無能を理由に指揮権を剥奪され、スペイン独立戦争の英雄であり、後にヌエバ・エスパーニャ副王となるベネガス将軍が後任となった。

余波

1809年初頭のスペイン軍の作戦は、メデジンの戦いにおける最初のマドリード攻勢から始まった。
