HD 74438

HD 74438は、地球から約425光年離れた散開星団IC 2391に位置する、 2つの連星系からなる分光四重星系である。^[⁷^]^[⁸^]推定年齢は 43 +15 −7百万年、^{[ 6 ]} HD 74438は既知の四重星系の中で最も若い。^{[ 9 ]}この系の外側の軌道周期は約5.7年と推定されており、四重星系の中でも最も短いものの一つである。^{[ 6 ]}^{[ 9 ]}

HD 74438 系は、 2017 年にGaia - ESOサーベイで収集されたデータから、重力的に束縛された四重連星系であることが確認されました。^[⁷^] 2022 年に発表された論文では、HD 74438 はサブチャンドラセカール Ia 型超新星の可能性のある前駆天体として特定されました。^[⁶^]
