Clashのニック・アナンは「Alternative Light SourceはRhythm & Stealthにふさわしい後継作で、それほど簡素でもハードヒットでもないが、エネルギーとアイデア、そしておなじみのLeftfieldの腹腔を揺さぶるベースが満載だ」と評した。[ 3 ] Mojoのスティーブン・ワーシーは、ニール・バーンズがLeftfieldのプラチナアルバムとなった前作に続く作品をリリースするという「難題に見事に応えた」とコメントし、このアルバムは「賢明なゲスト参加の数々に助けられ、観客を喜ばせるフェスティバルの壮大な曲、激しいテクニカルなワークアウト、そして弾けるようなシンセの子守唄のバランスが取れている」と述べた。[ 6 ]
