芸術科学部は、キングストンにあるクイーンズ大学の全学部の中で最大規模であり、1841年の大学創設時に設立された3つの学部のうちの1つである。
クイーンズ大学の歴史の中核を成すのは、人文科学部である。1841年にヴィクトリア女王が発布した勅許状は、大学が長老派教会の牧師を養成するとともに、若者に「科学と文学の様々な分野」を教えるというものであり、人文科学部の基礎を築いた。そして、長年にわたり神学が主流であったにもかかわらず、クイーンズ大学が最終的に医学部と応用科学部を備えた本格的な大学として発展することを可能にした。[ 1 ]
クイーンズ大学は1842年3月7日に開校し[ 2 ] 、ニューブランズウィック州フレデリクトンから太平洋までの1860キロメートルに及ぶ領土で最初の現役大学となった。最初の授業には13人の学生が登録し、キングストン郊外の小さな木造の家で授業が行われ、ピーター・コリン・キャンベル牧師とJAウィリアムソン牧師、そして大学初代学長のトーマス・リデルが古典、数学、自然哲学を教えた[ 1 ] 。
20年後、学生数は200人の若者にまで膨れ上がり、その間に設立されたマギル大学、トロント大学、ビクトリア大学に匹敵する規模となった。教員数も増加し、5人の教授陣（歴史学の初代教授は無給の非常勤講師だった！）が人文科学と自然科学の幅広い分野を提供した。教授陣は主にイギリス出身であったため、「カナダの状況に適応しやすい」と考えられた40歳未満の教員を採用することに細心の注意が払われた。[ 1 ]
現在、クイーンズ大学で最大の学部は文理学部であり、約8,500人のフルタイムの学部生と1,000人のパートタイムの学部生、1,500人の大学院生、そして450人の教員を擁しています。同学部は、科学、社会科学、人文科学、美術、言語など、幅広い学部学位プログラムを提供しています。[ 1 ]また、文理学部オンライン部門を通じて、通信教育、春学期および夏学期のコースも提供しています。[ 3 ]
The School of Computing makes its home in Goodwin Hall. It has the highest graduate-undergraduate ratio of any department at Queen's (nearly 2:1). The Turing Award (called the "Nobel Prize of Computing") has only ever been award to 2 Canadians, one of which was a Queen's alumnus.[4]

The faculty's undergraduate student government is the Arts and Science Undergraduate Society (A.S.U.S.). A.S.U.S. sends representatives and its executive to the university-wide undergraduate student government, the AMS. It also has its own assembly and manages its own set of events, organizations, and committees.
The Physical Health Education & Kinesiology Student Association (PHEKSA) is a student-run group at Queen's University that is composed of a Council, Assembly, and Honorary and Ordinary members.[5]
Founded in 1985, the Concurrent Education Students' Association represents over 900 students enrolled in the Concurrent Education program at Queen's University. Providing a united voice for students in this unique program to all external bodies, as well as facilitating a sense of community remain the main focuses of the Association.[6]
クイーンズ大学コンピューティング学生協会（COMPSA）は、クイーンズ大学コンピューティング学部の学生自治会です。COMPSAは、さまざまなイベントや機会を通じてコンピューティング学生コミュニティ全体を代表し、結集させる意欲の高い学生グループによって運営されています。[ 7 ]
クイーンズ大学大学院生・専門職学生協会（SGPS）は、クイーンズ大学のすべての大学院生および専門職学生の声を代弁する学生自治会です。SGPSは、学部レベルを超えたすべての学生のためにクイーンズ大学のコミュニティを代表し、構築する学生によって運営されています。[ 8 ]
クイーンズ大学が1889年に「エクステンション」コースの提供を開始して以来[ 9 ]、人文科学部は遠隔教育の先駆者であり続け、Arts and Science Online（以前は継続教育および遠隔学習）を通じて、卓越した質のオンラインコースとプログラムを提供しています[ 3 ] 。オンライン学習を通じて提供されるプログラムには、英語、グローバル開発研究、歴史、リベラルスタディーズ、心理学、生命科学、アカデミックライティング、雇用関係、起業家精神、イノベーションと創造性、専門家のためのフランス語、グローバルアクションとエンゲージメント、メディア研究などがあります。
クイーンズ大学の学部生インターンシッププログラム（QUIP）は、学生に12～16ヶ月の就業経験を提供します。QUIPインターンシップは、有給で専門家の監督下で行われるキャリア関連のポジションであり、2年生または3年生の学生に、ビジネスや産業における最新の進歩、慣行、技術について学ぶ機会を提供するように設計されています。この機会は、国内学生と留学生の両方に開かれています。[ 10 ]
